World War II German Red Cross DRK Hewer Dagger with Frog

Having 10.5-inch drop forged steel and nickel plated double combination-edged blade marked “Ges Geschutzt” on reverse of ricasso, single mirrored fuller towards rear, straight-edge opposite fuller and staggered saw-back edge along the wider spine with both edges beginning to taper inward over the last 2-inch portion of blade before coming to a blunt, squared off tip enabling enlisted members of the DRK / German Red Cross who were legally defined as non-combatants to carry a hewer in accordance with the Geneva Convention banning the carrying of offensive weapons by such members, uniformly finished nickel plated fittings including guard retaining brown leather buffer pad obverse langet having a modified squared eagle perched upon symmetrical, “squared cross” emblem of the Red Cross within a raised oval border, reverse langet having empty oval, cross guard portions consisting of oval extending minimally to flat sides, plain oval pommel with black Bakelite grip inserts having grip enhancing cross-hatching on obverse and smooth surface on reverse held in place by (2) counter-sunk screws entering from obverse; black finished magnetic metal scabbard having plain nickel finished cast alloy tip and collar portion, scabbard fitting retained by a pair of screws, one on each edge and plain black leather frog having “K” marked embossed on reverse with (4) metal rivets; together with foam-padded, microfiber surfaced 18-inch zippered “Ace Case” made in the U.S. able to store sheathed dagger and hanger

Condition: Very Good, overall light wear consistent with normal use, blade having original, non-sharpened factory edge with crossgraining prominently visible throughout, runner marks and occasional areas of light surface discoloration, blade free of any major rust or deep pitting having minor occasional light scuffs and scratches throughout; occasional light wear to cast alloy fittings including minors scuffs, scratches and areas of light surface discoloration throughout but fittings maintaining the majority of their original finish despite some relatively uniform wear, grip having a pen-tip sized nick to far left edge that meets recessed handle; black "enamel" style finish of scabbard having some crazing and occasional light scuffs and scratches but maintains majority of original finish; black leather frog having some wear consistent with material and normal use
