Civil War M1860 Light Cavalry Saber by Mansfield & Lamb

1864, having 34.75-inch blade dated and marked ‘U.S.’ and ‘J.C.W.’ on ricasso with ‘Mansfield & Lamb Foresdale, R.I.’ within an oval mark on opposite side of ricasso, including (2) fullers of different lengths and widths mirrored on either side of blade, twisted wire wrapped over leather grip, with brass guard including (3) branches and retaining leather buffer pad and pommel marked ‘W’ on one side and ‘E.W’ on other, plain steel scabbard unmarked, having (2) D-rings and natural patina

Length: 42 1/2 inches, Width: 5 inches (including scabbard)

Condition: Good, overall light wear consistent with normal use, blade having only few minute nicks to edge, along outermost 1/3rd of blade, blade having light scuffs and scratches throughout including occasional areas of surface discoloration but no major rust or pitting and no signs of resharpening, grip seemingly original, having areas of thinned or worn leather including shallow 1-inch vertical crack through leather into uppermost layer of wood meeting underside of upper guard as well as vertical 1.5-inch crack having exposed some areas of missing wood running to bottom of guard, brass guard having occasional minute nicks and minor areas of patina discoloration, scabbard having minor scuffs and scratches, (2) light dents with areas of very light pitting blending with patina
