Victorian Lap Desks
(2) items including an English mahogany desk having hinged top, (2) covered compartments, (2) open compartments, a covered pen compartment in the center, a secret panel triggered by pushing a screw reveals (3) hidden drawers, marked 4-PB on inside of lower envelope compartment, small carved bone pulls, green felt writing area and brass escutcheon, corner pieces, handles and cartouche, lock marked ‘Turners, W-Hampton’ and a crown; and a smaller walnut and burled veneered having (2) hinged tops, mother of pearl inlays and cartouche having the initials etched on top, the hinged tops open to (3) covered compartments with (2) containing glass ink bottles, an uncovered compartment, a stationary compartment and an embossed red velvet writing surface

Condition: Good, light to moderate wear, larger box having a 7-inch crack on upper left and a 5.5-inch crack in center under cartouche, some chips in wood and tarnish on brass, missing hardware on stationary compartment, wood chip on locking mechanism to envelope compartment; burled desk having veneer missing around bottom edge, missing wood lower left corner, veneer cracked in places, some inlay missing lower right; no keys for either piece
