Oceanic Carved Wood Figure
20th century Easter Island (Ruatu) ancestor statue depicting an emaciated male figure with arms carved away from the body, skeletal details visible, the top of skull-like head incised, eye sockets, etched brow, elongated ears with typical pendant ornaments, nose, mouth showing teeth and a prominent chin with beard, elongated torso, slender legs with stub feet; and statue having two Hornbill birds at the top
Provenance: The Estate of George ‘Yorgo’ Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1965-2000

Condition: Very Good to Fair, overall light wear consistent with normal use; Easter Island figurine having right eye and ear lobe missing, wood cracking due to age, chipping; bird figurine having insect damage, broken and missing parts, paint loss, missing feet
