Unknown Artist (Mexican, 20th Century) Fabric Collage
Undated, unsigned, textile art depicting ‘Combate Del Dos de Mayo’, The Battle of Callao occurred on May 2, 1866 between a Spanish fleet under the command of Admiral Casto Méndez Núñez and the fortified battery emplacements of the Peruvian port city of Callao during the Chincha Islands War, framed in a lucite shadow box | Asian and Mexican Mask Assortment, Ten 20th C. items including masks fabricated of carved wood, papier-mache, clay, beads and straw; together with an embroidered silk hat and a mermaid sculpture
Condition: Very Good to Fair, collage having some loose threads; 3cm seam opening at middle right edge; some discoloration throughout; silver loss to mirror accents; not examined out of the frame; masks having overall light wear consistent with normal use; two older and larger painted wood and Indian papier-mache masks showing wear, mirror eye loose on larger
