c.1805, crafted by Thomas Commeraws (active 1797-1819), the first free black potter in New York; ovoid jug having a tooled spout, shoulder incised with drape and tassel motif highlighted in cobalt, footed base; provenance: James Wm. Lowery Fine Antiques, March 15, 2015 (original invoice included)
Condition: Very Good, having firing fissures centering the handle at joints; overall light wear consistent with age and normal use; please note: this lot came from a smoking house and a slight odor may be present
