Norwegian Marriage Trunk
1869, faux grain painted six board pine chest having dovetailed corners reinforced with forged angle irons, operating iron lock having key and covered by an iron escutcheon, iron strap hinges attached to back and under milled panel and cleated lid upon which is an iron bale handle; painted inscription ‘Rachel Urland Olsdatter 1869’ on front and having graphite inscription ‘Rachel Olsdatter Urland Bjerd’ inside lid
Condition: Very Good, expansion split to bottom board; stress splits on top board at rear between hinges and cleat fasteners; overall light to moderate wear consistent with age and normal use; please note: this lot came from a smoking house and a slight odor may be present
