(3) total items including the image of General William Vandever (American, 1817-1893), printed within a decorative border, having misspelled title ‘Brigadier General Vandevier and Staff, Rome, Ga.’, ‘Photographed under the direction of Col. Wm. E. Merrill, Chief Engr. D.C.’ and ‘H. Goldsticker. Photoengr. Operator.’ below image, hand printed record of the chain of possession through the Cox family on verso, visible through the back glass of the double-pane wood float frame, the sheet attached using photo corner mounts to backing mat; together with a sleeve containing scans of the image and a copy of the National Historical Society book ‘The Image of War: 1861-1865 Vol. IV’ in which the image appears on page #48
