Six-gallon stoneware crock with elaborate cobalt bird decoration, stamped ‘A. O. WHITTEMORE / HAVANA, N.Y.’ cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, bird having long tail and striped body, perched on a leafy stem, slip-trailed ‘6’ to right and left of decoration, cobalt highlights to maker mark and capacity mark
Condition: Very Good, no chips or cracks noted, overall light wear consistent with age and normal use; under UV light there is some discoloration; please note: this lot came from a smoking house and a slight odor may be present
